just picked up a 1981 suzuki RM125 off one of my students,it had belonged to his uncle since new and never raced,a very complete bike,tank is painted (stock?),real nice seat
I'll get photos asap (how do I do that pit?)

thanks,this thing has a few issues,crankcase was FULL of fuel,laid the bike on it's side and pumped it out,removed the radiator to remove the pipe to drain it as well,when kicking the engine thru to clear it I saw exhaust vapor from the water pump,removed the cover and this was confirmed,I have never seen this on anything before hopfully just a gasket,photos will be delayed due to disassembly,got to love them old bikes!

rm.jpgthis is the photo I got from the guy I bought it from,it was much cleaner when I got it,head gasket appears to be the problem,parts ordered
 
it lives!,new gaskets,rings and fluids,2 kicks and she was a cackleing away (no silencer),ran thru 2 heat cycles,did a test ride down the drive and forgot to hook up the rear brakes! good thing for the front ones,going thru the suspension next and maybe a fresh coat of paint on the frame,tank appears to have a coating on it not paint
 
Man.......seems like the old dirt bike supply and barn-finds just never ends up there in the north east.
 
have not decided if I'm going to take it all apart and repaint the frame after removing the welded on kick stand or just put it all back together and give it a rip up and down the street trying to avoid the cops,just like the old days........awwww....memories

it all came apart last night,ready to be pressure washed,all suspension pivot points were in good shape needing only fresh grease,had an abrasive cutoff wheel explode during the improper side stand removal leaving me with a nice 3" gash on my arm,may have exceeded the recomended RPM with my rotozip (w/o guard),just another scar to add to the collection

Geez, would you believe that until I saw Mosher's reply...I actually thought you were refering to a gouge on the bike's swingarm!

Glad to hear the RM was not harmed :)
 
no RM was hurt during this repair,just a billybob welded kickstand,funny thing was that they welded the original bolt to mount to the bottom of the frame first then welded the stand to the frame where the mount was suppose to be??????
in case it matters my arm is healing well,as much as I bleed on some of these projects I must be succeedin : }

wounds healing well,got the frame and engine painted last night,not restoration quality (I don't restore them,I refinish them)but much nicer and pretty good for a rider,got the forks done and the swingarm is good except for one bearing which is on it's way,got to clean up the rest of the parts and staart puttin it back together
 
CIMG0081.jpghere's where we are so far,finished chassis/engine,frame cleaned and apinted along w/all suspension parts,new fork seals,rear all cleaned and re greased (10 points both sides)left side swingarm bearing replaced,new clutch and throttle cable,bodywork next
