National Championships in Canton
Bike Days Nationals at the Stark County Fairgrounds, Memorial Weekend, May 28 & 29, Canton, Ohio.
The Speedway Long Track National Championship is on Saturday, May 28. Racers are registered from Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Quebec and Ontario Canada in pursuit of the #1 Plate representing the National Championship.
The motorcycles used for speedway are not remotely like any machine you will ever see on the roads. They have acceleration equal to a Formula One racing car, but rather surprisingly have NO BRAKES, rear suspension or gears. For the technically minded, the engines are 500cc single cylinder four valve, four strokes with air cooling. Methanol is used instead of gasoline to enable them to run at very high compression ratios.
#1 Jeff Orosz (CAN), takes the lead as Kyle Legault who rides for the Newport Wasps in the British Speedway’s Premier League bike sputters and dies. Orosz continued on to win the Speedway Long Track National Championship last year.

The Professional classes are The Vintage Pro70's Singles thru 1980, Vintage Pro80's Singles thru 1989 and the Vintage ProTwins thru 1983.
