The Arenacross series has generated a bit of a stir with the recent format changes and "The Chase" style championship run. Plugged in at primetime tv viewing right before A1 is not a fluke. It is the wave of the future for the Supercross series. With more and more media coverage and television packaging deals, it is all about generating ratings and frankley getting folks to watch. Ricky Charmicael (5 time Monster Energy Supercross Champion) has been heavily involved in recent changes with track designs and added quirks to such events as the Monster Energy Cup and continues to do so. Charmichael has even proposed a "Freshman class" of riders to participate in the Arenacross series before advancing to the larger venued SX series. "The Chase" style run to the championship was first used in the NASCAR series and has been well received. NHRA has adopted a similar championship run as well. Television ratings have improved with such succes and continue to improve especially in the latter races where most championships would have already been decided. The Monster Energy Supercross Champion has more than not been decided before season's end. Events and media packages will continue to be monitored and systematically reviewed at the conclusion of the year. Hmmmmm... Whatchya think?
