Help me here....
Aren't goggles a safety apparel requirement in most organized motosport events?

Why is it different in vintage racing? -

AHRMA posts photo = guy has no goggles on ???
AMA posts photo = guy has no goggles on ???

Why is that? ......

In the photo above, the guy on the Triumph has prescription glasses but no goggles.
Seems a bit early in the moto to have pulled them because he's just leaving the gate.

And the other day this was posted on here as well.
Again, this looks like a pair of prescription glasses with no goggles.

Why is this ???

Speaking for AMA events.. eye protection is a must. These old guys can be sneaky. But atleast the kids look good.

This post just made me realize we haven't even begun a Vintage Motorcycle Days countdown thread this year, man we are really slacking here!

We better get busy.
I'm so far behind on my bikes I'm not sure what exactly I'll be racing this year, if anything???

Sharc, meet the "King".

Pretty good memory KO.
I was only a teenager when Burleson was filling the pages of my Dirt Bike magazines. Besides his legendary off road skills, those big glass's of his was certainly one of his distinguishing characteristics.

Did Burleson never use goggles - only glasses?
Was he a unique case that had to get that approved?
Are woods riders held to a different set of safety gear?

This photo is used in an article that was courtesy of the American Motorcyclist Association to Todays Cycle Coverage (an on line outlet) about the AMA Vintage Days.
This guy at least has goggles with him.

I think someone LIKES to take & use pictures of folks without proper eye protection because it looks more CORE or something ....

Pages upon pages of rules & regulations....But the basic safety gear ....Bla - who needs it...

Dick-Burleson-2015.jpg

Found one of Burleson with some goggles around his neck

Most of the rest - only glasses

But this is an Moto race. So maybe that's why he had to start with them.

This is from the AMA web site .....Bla ha - ha !!!!
Now I see where this goggle thing is coming from. This poor kid didn’t have any eye protection.

Way back when I rode my 4 horse Bonanza, I wore my glasses but no helmet. Bla ha-ha!
What is that bike Sharc? It's cool!

No goggles on that kid ! ---

That glamor shot was done by my mother to send to my grandparents overseas.
I remember it vividly. She made me put on the ugly sweater my grandma sent.

Here's a pic of the minibike. I had a red one just like this one. It was made by MTD

Back in the 80s my dad did some machine work for Burelson and Terry Cunninghams engines when they were riding Husky Autos.

Chased by a glasses guy, Mid O, back in the AHRMA days. Didn't seem to mind 125 roost. :)
Seriously though, I do have a couple of pairs of really good polycarbonate lens athletic glasses that I feel safe riding in under non-dusty conditions. I'd really like to get them to fit properly under goggles but I get to much glasses movement and fogging.

Always really cool to see the older bikes out there, loved seeing and hearing that air cooled 2 stroke 80 out there wide open last night.
