ALTA Redshift Price Drop.

Where are you guys coming up with “pros” not using the clutch ?
Justin Brayton is so hard on a clutch that he barely makes through the main. Literally every time he goes on the track he’s getting a new clutch. Alex Ray uses 2 clutches a day at a sx. Most of the bigger teams put a new clutch in for qualifiers and mains.

Alta throttle. No need for a clutch

Oh, and NO ONE burns through a clutch in one moto. Fast, slow, reverse a clutch will hardly fade in one moto. If a team is replacing clutches that fast it is because they get them for free and have more they know what to do with.
Teams also replace the rear tire every moto. Know why? They are FREE
Back in my day I made a tire last all year. Never, and I mean never replaced a clutch and used less tear offs for the year then Plessinger tore off AFTER the checked flag in Oakland. Know why? Because they were not free.

The only time I've ever burnt a clutch up was on a cr80 in a mud race...and that was my fault. Beyond that I never even replaced a clutch. Lol And this is coming from a guy who rode for decades with a finger on the clutch because you actually needed it on bikes like 80's and 125's. Motocross action said the clutch on the 09 Honda 450 was junk....and I rode one for three 3 seasons and never wore it halfway out.

I'll never understand what kind of torture people are putting on a clutch that requires it to be replaced every few races. Must be the new generation that holds a 250F on the rev limiter and then uses the clutch like it's the throttle.

I literally just had this conversation with the guys at Rekluse and Hinson. Both companies said the exact same thing, that most top guys destroy clutches in a moto for several reasons .
1. They don't care.
2. They use it to moderate the power way more than us normal people.
3. They run less oil than stock engines.
4. They have way more HP.

Makes sense because when I rented in college electric and water was included. The apartment was always 65 degrees. Now that I’m paying for it....the house is about 73 in the summer and 67 In The winter. Bahaha.

If I had about 10 Hinsons I might consider beating the s**t out of them.

Not sure tho. My dad used to buy clutches in bulk for the yz80. Literally one would die every other moto. Once I got on 125s clutches were never an issue. Hell my 144 is on the same clutch. It’s the only part I didn’t overhaul when I rebuilt it 4 years ago. And I never really touch the clutch on that bike either. I’m not a pro I get it, but how much are we actually using the clutch?

You must not use the clutch all, the 09 crf450 clutch was the worst clutch Honda ever put into a bike, the current models are close.
The guys at Hinson said the 09 complete clutch kit was their best seller but new 17/18 may surpass it.

I never have to replace clutches. But my son kept complaining that his clutch was not good off the starting line and that something was not right. But looking at him on the track, the bike looked to be fine. So I decided to put a clutch in his 125. He said immediately, that it was 100% better. So he must not be all full of crap.

Did he SEE you replace it? Should have tested him and said that you did, but didn’t and see what he said then.
I remember going to several testing sessions with a bunch of different guys and a few would say “this or that sucks” the mechanics would act like they were making changes but didn’t and the guy would go back out and say “oh this is so much better”.
I know one suspension tech that replaced the nitrogen in a shock, told the guy it was revalved with works components. The dude said it was the best shock ever and would take it with him on “start money” events around the country. Must have been some quality gas.
I digress... I want to ride an Alta just to see what it’s like

When I ride a 450 I rarely use it other than to keep the bike from stalling in tight turns. If you are fanning the clutch on 450 I can assure you that you are doing it wrong.

I can understand supercross being hard on clutches for no other reason that the factory guys are using 4th gear in the whoops and they are probably using the clutch a lot in the corner before since most of them shift up in the air on the triple before the turn leading to the whoops.

So you never use the clutch on your 450 to control the front end off the start?

I only use the clutch at the start or when I get lazy and tired in turns. If you need to use a clutch on a 4 stroke on most modern tracks, 1 you are either geared wrong, or two, you are using the throttle correctly. Or I guess three, your engine is on its last leg. But then again, I keep up with my maintenance and change my clutch plates periodically too.

No put your fat ass up in the gas cap. And make sure your chin is trying to touch the front fender. Smooth rolling on the power.
Well for us guys that aren't P#*&ies and can handle our 450s.....Its a bit more than that Girly 250 your racing. And if you ride a Yamaha, it is like driving a chevy....it has more power and your probably not sleeping with your sister!

Georgie, you said the 450 was like ripping your arms off.....oh yeah, that was a Yamaha too!

I thought your quad was automatic.
