PitRacer Posse Member Marc the Sharc has passed away

I’m reaching out to my graphics co to get Sharc number plate stickers made.

Another one of his sayings I admired and on the surface it I thought it’s just Sharc being Sharc, but over time I figured out it defined his unique character; “not everyone can grow up to be a Sharc!”

His tell it like it is, f’em, mentality, his coolness, his wisdom, all of it.

We will try to do him right in a few weeks, but you know whatever happens he will be smiling or laughing at us.

Combined track day??? Bringing everyone together to honor Sharc!!! I’ll work with some people to see if maybe we can get his bike there for the Ride Day! The Big #2 for all to see one more time!

That pic of Marc posing like he belonged "in the Hood" beside that Lincoln with the 20" chrome wheels is burned in my brain.
Hillarious!! :D
So many Sharc stories. The pic was from MM trip a group of us went on. This hotel was behind a gas station, he sees this car and runs over for a pic I took. Seriously could have caught a VD being that close the the place, shady.
Same trip we were at the track and we ended up in an endless 1' deep water trail that Pit enjoyed!
I think the first day my 144 had a head gasket issue. Sharc had the parts and a different head for it, replaced it in like 45 mins. Sharc was ecstatic and keep saying " you can't do that so easily with a 4 stroke!!" It was during our 125 resurrection days!

Best Sharc story though for me was Spring Creek regional. Another good group of us up there and Sharc starts out in front of me, I caught him first lap and followed him for 2 more. No matter where I went he knew how to keep me back there. Nothing dirty. Just awesome race craft. Finally going down the first big hill after the Chadapault, I though I had him going down the outside but he moves over and I finally yelled at him " AWE COME ON!!!!!" ... Finally passed him and moved on. But we laughed so hard about that for years after.

Great guy, lived life to the fullest, the best part though is he did it on his terms, his way.

RIP

We got Sharc’s Bike to put on the Podium at Briarcliff for the Ride day on the 18th!!!! He will be smiling on us all remembering all the fun at the track over the years with the SHARC!!! He was motocross since the 70’s all the way up to this year!!!! No way better then to celebrate him at the track!!!

Heard about the loss of Marc from the Hand family...hard to believe. The guy was a fixture of Ohio motocross, and had been since the early '70s, when I first met him at Smith Road sometime in '74. My Dad and I had just made the jump from backyard-dork XR75 rider (me) to actual motocross competition (on a 100% stock XR), and we parked next to Marc and his Dad at George's place. Marc was riding a YZ80, but they had good advice for us, as we had no clue what we were doing. They said, "get fresh tires (mine were totally worn out), then a pipe and cam and K&N air filter, which were the basics at the time. Great advice. We raced against him for the rest of that season and throughout 1975, and battled constantly along with guys like Dave Hand, Dave Shelley, Kenny Karnow and others. Epic days. He and I and a guy named Bob Werschey camped at Mid-Ohio in '77 for the Trans-AMA... did and saw stuff we probably shouldn't have, but it was epic. In later years he loaned me his Honda 450 for a race at OIR, and he gave me a massive old-magazine collection he'd gotten from a guy who'd passed away in Medina...(he even shipped it to me in a huge crate.) I still have it, and use it for story research in American Motorcyclist. "Generous" doesn't begin to cover it...as you guys know. Here's the best shot I have of the Sharc: He and I hole-shotting the mini race at GPIR in late '75, he on his YZ (#2) and me on my XR (#184). That's Chuck Emery behind Marc, and Kenny Karnow behind me (#820). It's sad, and I hope his family is coping, but he'd want everyone to "buck up" and get out to the track and celebrate this wonderful sport we all love, and I suspect that what a lot of us will do. Thanks for letting me share. Mitch Boehm.

Ugh...just a bummer. Ride on brother Sharc...

Saw this on FB first via Pit...sucked then too... Kinda put it out of my mind until I jumped on the ol' Pitracer after a few minutes since last time I had. Kinda feels like coming home after a long stay away forgetting about the good times had.

RIP Sharc...
