Evem more cool with that story. All the advantages that modern four stokes enjoy in a vintage bike. The ignition mod is newer but were all those other motor hop ups around in '73-'74?
Yea, the Powroll mods and big pistons were very popular back then.
The electronic ignition mod wasn't but the ATC`185 was around
about then I guess (I never asked or investigated) and every Honda
single I've ever seen at an AHRMA race has the mod.
The Powroll strokers are particularly interesting. They drilled new holes
farther out on the crank wheels to increase the stroke. But then
the rod is too long so they heat up the middle of the rod and squish
it shorter. Looks weird as hell, a rod that is fat and blue from the
heat in the middle. Fixture to do the heating and squishing must be
a contraption.
I happened upon a combination with my '73 360 MX that makes it seem more comfortable at speed but I'm not a chance taker and that bike is way too heavy to test any limits.
Testing limits is what it's about but, I guess like you, those tests get at a lower level
every year. I like high speed but getting both wheels in the air just isn't
going to happen. I barely do it on my modern bike, ain't no way I'm
jumping any doubles even on it.
