Dont confuse supercross with motocross. Out doors will be completely different. I hate supercross for the record. It is getting too far away from what racing motorcycles on dirt is supposed to be.

Not getting what you mean? They still drop the gate and first one to cross the finish line with the checkard flag wins... ???

I agree with D-squared . SX is a whole different animal now than it was in the 80s and 90s ( And I liked it even more in my era , the 70s ). It really isn't much like racing motorcycles on dirt if they are in the air most of the time . The tracks are too fast and too critical . Yes it is a dangerous sport but just think of the injury rate of the last few seasons . It is getting to be more like a giant Arenacross with shorter lap times and takeout moves getting more common . Yep , still watch it , but much prefer outdoor MX .They are even screwing that up with some of the more manmade venues that are cropping up . Give me a natural terrain track any day . I loved the European GP tracks of the 70s . Hell , they had hills on some of those tracks that many of the world's top pros didn't make it up sometimes . Off-cambers , creek crossings , hills , mud holes , ledges , natural jumps : that's where bikes should be raced ( IMO ) . Scrubbing is what you do to you a$$ when it gets dirty .

I will type this slow for you, so you are not confused. Yes it is a little off topic... ready Dave...try to sound out the big words.

BUT it was said in this thread that Dungey is past his prime and maybe done with KTM, and RV2 may be hurt, and JS7 has lost his edge......blah blah blah

OK, Supercross is now about who will take the most risk! not always the best skilled rider. the top 10 can all turn it up to the redline and win, or die.

Maybe they have too much to lose to end their career to do the " quad" every lap to win.
Taking the safe, I want to race every event and win with consistency. Or finish on the podium almost every week and still make some good sponsor money.
Who wants to be a millionaire in a wheelchair? Not these guys.


And yes, first one to the flag wins. absolutely. I just dont like the tracks to be made to set the stage for crashing and t-bones and arena cross type racing.

It is my opinion but, you know I am right... ha ha

The next step in Supercross is to give the riders style points for tricks done during the race, like on a video game. 2 points for a backflip over the finish line (TP199 Daytona)
3 points for a Noc-Nac over the quad!
 
The same damn thing can be said about Scenic Highlands finish line triple, Briarcliff's finish line jump, Dirt Country's Double-double, DMCs double besides the finish, and so on. They all have big do or die jumps that seem to be the norm for most people until someone gets hurt. SX just does it in a stadium.

OK, I don't any of those jumps.

RV, RD, JS and 90% of the 22 bikes in the Main event would do those jumps 1st or second lap and never even think about it.
They could hit them 1000 times without any issue.
Supercross is short approaches and big gaps with a narrow track.

The chances they are taking is like doing two table tops at a time @BC leading up to thefinish line

Agreed. And I'm going to say 99%, not 90.

You cannot compare anything at a local track (around here at least) to a pro supercross track. Unless you have walked or rode one recently. What you see on TV and in pics does no justice. And one as rough as Indy got... yikes. I wouldnt have survived one lap just trying to roll or double through things!!!! Seeing how much they struggled in practice really put it into perspective for me. KNew it was gonna be a weird night.
 
65,000 fans do not show up to watch guys go around corners or go down flat straights. People want jumps and carnage.
Speed is relative. If the top ten are hurt or whatever, then the next ten will take their place. They will look just as fast.
As far as "SX" in the 70's... The speeds where much higher then. Smaller jumps of course, but guys still got hurt.

I don't think Dung is past his prime. Got to remember Mr. Vanilla is only 24. In my opinion, KTM would be foolish not to resign him. He is incredibly popular (listen when he is announced during opening ceremony) and outside of 'Potto, the most consistent. He has a perfect image, top notch conditioning and excellent repose with the fans... OMG, I am falling in love with Dungey...
 
IDK how anyone that is winning a SX main can be past their prime. Even if RV or JS crash out, theres still plenty of other really fast guys that could be #1.

With other riders already in contract, who else would KTM sign BESIDES dungey(and KR)?
 
DeCoster, while being critical of his rider, still loves his rider. That is why so many people over the years did not click with DeCoster, because he was critical of them and their riding. DeCoster loves Dungey. That's why he was #1 on his list when he went from Suzuki to KTM to take with him. Dungey is a SOLID top three rider....CONSISTENLY. Roczen, is the young up and comer that will be a future 450 champ. Both are great with fans.....clean professional image, and bring sponsors to the table. IF Dungey was gone, who would you replace him with???

Dungey is at KTM for a while. Scoob, go ahead and send me the Ben Franklin.

Speeds were much higher then ? The bikes of the 70s were shorter travel , twin shock ( mostly ) , skinny fork tube , drum brake , 2-stroke , without power valve , machines . Tracks were choppier , had little " flow " , went up/down & in/out of the stadiums , and had water holes , sand pits , etc. . Faster than todays tracks with the modern 4-strokes ? Were we watching the same races ?

If it has 2 wheels and an engine , guys will get hurt on it for sure . Personally , I like to watch the best race EACH OTHER on the same track , no matter what it is . I'm not saying take away all the challenge but I do not need to see them maimed , crippled , or killed to be entertained . Maybe todays sensationalism-hungry generation needs a "Thunder Dome " or " Running Man " type of event to get them to look up from their cell phones . Kind of sad .

Not too many riders I don't like these days ( Is J-Law still racing ? ) but Dungey is a top favorite of mine . He has the drive , capabilities , and smarts to march a lot higher in the record books than I think a lot of people give him credit for .
