Thanks for the memories! How awesome is that.

For two years Kenny Henry and I about killed eachother on the track battling every weekend. I miss being 15. Those were some great years.

Man how things have changed.

Damnit! Babet beat me with a 8-6 to my 7-7 in Plus 30 at Scenic 13 years ago! If I had only known him back then, I would have parked him in moto 2! Unfortunately, I tucked the front and went down in the first corner. F Tim for digging that corner deep as hell prior to the start!
Oh to be 38 again! lol

Speaking of memory lane. Here's Tim (ran the still epic Scenic) with a Holeshot. One of the few pics I have of him not on a tractor or water truck....
Who's that dude still on the starting line? Willie something?

Is that Becker still on the starting line? For some reason I was thinking he was #83?

Never raced any fair races. I was on a 250f and Kenny was on a 125 Ktm. I had a slight advantage. Lol. Like I said best racing of my life. And then 2005 came along and it was time to grow up. :(

Whatever happened to Sammy Isabel and Andy Sczypta? I remember taking a lot of pics of them on 80's.

I see Cooper made a trip in 2006 to Crow. It's funny seeing a Lem in the mix.

Sam still lives in painesville. Hasnt touched a bike in a long time. Got into music after he quit riding, and drugs. and im pretty sure thats probably all hes still doing. he lost his mind. ran into his dad not that long ago. kinda bums me out, used to ride with him a lot back in the day. some of the best times i had riding bikes.

andy havent seen in forever since they got out of NEMX, he hasnt rode in a long time either..did school and all that fun stuff.

Did PDR have a hand (or wrench) in this trip down memory lane? I don't believe in coincidence.
Dave? (the links to the DirtWorld & Broken Spokes videos are fixed).
Any chance these videos are somewhere I could see them? Spokes was then first track I rode at back when I started. Many fond memories of that era.

And thanks John for starting this topic. Some great memories of that era.

I'm pretty sure the "Jordan Smith" in the 50cc classes below is the same one that is now on Team Geico Honda. Pretty wild.

Stroupe, Renner Converge at Ohio LL Qualifier

Crow Canyon Loretta Lynn Area Qualifier
AES Promotions, AMA District 12
Uhrichsville, Ohio
May 28-29, 2005
By: John Kreps, PitRacer.com

Northeast Ohio was a-buzz with motocross activity for this late May weekend as Crow Canyon Raceway in AMA District 12 held the eighth and final MXSports LL Area Qualifier for the Mid-East region. Over one-thousand racers put their knobbies to the dirt over the two day event, and the top eight finishers in each of the qualifying classes earned a spot at the upcoming Regional Qualifier races to finalize their attempt of racing the National Championships in August at Loretta Lynn's ranch in Tennessee.

Competitors came from far and wide for their final chance to move on to the next round; nineteen states and also Ontario, Canada were represented at this event. The AES Promotions crew worked overtime crowding the vehicles into the pits and preparing the course on a hot and sunny Ohio weekend. Although most classes ran on both weekend days for District points, Saturday is the qualifying day for peewees, women, and stock bike classes. Sunday is the qualifier for minis, modified bike, and vet classes.

Two young teenagers were standouts during the weekend of racing, and the two were never far apart on the course either. Austin Stroupe of Lincolntown, NC and Ricky Renner of Mulberry, FL put the pedal to the metal all weekend and hashed it out in the Schoolboy and 125B qualifier classes each day. When the dust settled, Stroupe has bested Renner for each overall but it was by no means easy for the Kawasaki racer. Renner and his #53 Yamaha chased Stroupe hard each moto, and also took a moto victory over Stroupe in Sunday's 125B Modified moto one. Both Stroupe and Renner will be considered favorites at the upcoming Regional qualifiers.

Saturday's peewee races were also a sight to see, as packed gates of 4-8 year olds took to the big track. The speeds of these youngsters was phenomenal, with many of them clearing some of the doubles just like the big bikes. Mansfield, Ohio local Bryce Miller was able to take the point in the Peewee Shaft Drive division, and was also the only Cobra motorcycle in a class dominated by Yamaha PW50's. Bryce nabbed the overall with a 1-2 score, besting Grover, NC's Austin McKeee and Frederick, MD's Jackson Grove. The 50cc 7-8 Stock class roared off the gate with over 40 entrants; qualifiers were required to narrow the field to a full gate. In the end, Jared Jennings of Port Jervis, NY swept the overall on his Cobra with a 1-1 tally over Beaver, PA's Shane Smallwood. Smallwood came home second in both his qualifier and the second moto. Jordan Smith was the first KTM, taking third and making his trek from Belmont, NC a happy one.

The mini classes on Sunday were also full-gate affairs, and Ohio native James Justice managed to reel off four moto victories on the day. Justice served up wins in the 85cc 12-13 and Supermini classes on his KTM mini. Caleb Gaines from Ringwold, GA took second in the Supermini class, but rebounded victoriously in the 85cc 12-15 division.

Baker Ices the Ohio Super Series

Crow Canyon Raceway
AMA District 12: Kames Ohio Super Series Rnd #7
AES Promotions
Uhrichsville, Ohio
July 03, 2005
By: John Kreps, PitRacer.com

The Kames Sports Ohio Super Series headed to Uhrichsville, Ohio to complete the springtime points series at Crow Canyon Raceway. Racers needed to complete four of the seven events to be eligible for series awards, and the racing action was nearly as hot as the July temperatures during this Ohio Summer drought.

George Baker III came into the race with commanding leads in both the 125B and Collegeboy 16-24 classes but had no plans of letting off and cruising to the titles. Baker, riding a Honda CRF250, is one of those young guns that charges hard no matter what the circumstance. And charge he did, opening with both first moto victories in his classes. His streak continued in the Collegeboy class with another moto win, taking the overall ahead of Stacy Crute from Mentor, Ohio. The 125B class was another story though as Schoolboy class speedster CJ Coffied was able to get out front and take the measure of Baker for the second moto and overall victory. Nathan Edwards was able to put in a fine second moto ride to take home the third spot for the day. Coffield later paired his B class victory with a Schoolboy class win as well.

In the Vet classes, Judson Linder took advantage of a first moto mishap by rival Johnny Gallagher and raced to the victory in the +30A/B class with a 1-2 moto showing. Gallagher recovered to take the second moto victory though, and also retained his points lead in the class. Parma, Ohio's Dave Kacmar took him second on the day and third overall in the series behind Gallagher and Linder, respectively. The +30C class was another 1-1 sweep by Michael Delozier of Zanesville, Ohio, his second of the series. It was not enough however to overcome the points lead by Findlay's Greg Minard, who ended the day with a DNS after first moto troubles. Tim Hughes put in a consistent ride with a 3-3 moto tally to bring home second place, followed by the Yamaha of Michael Wray.

KTM America's Vince Karnow continued his District 12 domination, taking home both the +25 and 250A divisions. Former AMA National racer Karnow has become so dominant in northern Ohio that his name can almost be penciled in the top spot as soon as his truck pulls in the gate. Behind Karnow in the A class, Nicholas Prendes and Shawn Johnson swapped spots in each moto fighting for second, with Johnson taking the tie-breaking second moto. Plus 30 racer Gallagher took runner up honors to Karnow in +25.

LL Regional at Scenic Highlands with Malcom Stewart racing 85cc.....

Wagner Paints a Path to Loretta Lynn's
Mid-East Youth Regional
Scenic Highlands
June 25/26, 2005
By: John Kreps, PitRacer.com

For the first time in nearly two decades, the MX Sports Mid East LL Youth Regional Championship Qualifier returned in late June to Northern Ohio. This invitation only event places the top seven racers into the finals located at Loretta Lynn's ranch in Tennessee. Scenic Highlands Motosports Park, a relatively new venue in Ohio, has been growing steadily over the last five years and their crew has been making a push to garner championship events. Their hard work and dedication paid off when over seven-hundred young racers poured through the signup building to enter the three-day event weekend.

With temperatures in the mid-nineties and two major watering equipment failures, the weekend started off shaky as racers were fighting dusty conditions at the Friday practice and during the first stages of Saturday's racing. Much to everyone's delight, the track crew recovered and wrestled Mother Nature back under control to provide a phenomenal race track for the final two motos of the three moto set.

Many of the classes were over-booked from the Area Qualifiers, causing nine of the sixteen classes to require qualifier races to narrow the field to forty riders. These qualifier heats were scored as the racers first moto on the weekend and they would then continue will full-gate second and third motos.

Each class provided non-stop excitement; at this level of racing all the participants are very skilled motocrossers. But some of the best action of the weekend was held in the 85cc racing divisions, and local Ohioans shined in these mid-level classes. Shawn Rife, Egan Rosell, and Jeremy Talyor all put the Buckeye State on the top of the podium aboard their 85cc machines. Rosell and Taylor also went 1-2 in the 85cc 7-11 Stock class. The 85cc 12-13 Modified class saw Ohioans Rife and James Justice win the qualifier heats, but neither ended the weekend with qualifying spots due to third moto DNF's. Kyle Regal from Fowlerville, MI took the point with a 2-1-6 tally, followed by Malcolm Stewart - younger brother to Team Kawasaki's James "Bubba" Stewart. Stewart edged out fellow Floridian Jared Schudel for the runner up spot by blazing to the third moto victory.

Brett Wagner traveled from Niles, Michigan to garner double class victories. Wagner was the model of consistency and came out victorious in both of the 125 Schoolboy divisions, stock and modified. He did so while scoring only one moto win out of the six races on his Kawasaki two-stroke, but top three finishes in each moto proved their worth at day's end. Nicholas Howard of Milton, Kentucky and Michigan's Brent Brown chased Wagner to the finish in the Stock division. Two natives of Ortonville, Michigan, Daniel Aulseybrook and Alex Hotchkiss, respectively, rounded out the podium in the Modified class.

Overall, the Mid East Youth Regional was a very successful event and provided a very safe racing atmosphere for one-hundred twelve young racers to make it to the next step in their National Championship quest.
