So here is the plan. I am going to take this bright and shinny 2004 KX125 and put a few of my posts into action.
Everyone says "This sport costs too much" Well I am going to prove that you do not need to spend 10K on a new fart bike to be competitive in moto. Total budget will be WELL under $2,000. I found this on Craigslist in Nowhere, Tennessee. The owner purchased it new and has only rode it a few times a year and if has not been touched in years. Now, if you are a vintage guy or every rebuild any motocross bike you know you hear this on about 90% of the bikes you find. BUT, this time, I think it is true. Got it home and of course the first step was to remove the energy stickers that guys put all over the darn place. (I still have the backing stuck to the plastic in most places so if anyone knows a good way to remove it, please let me know.) I digress.
Only stickers on this bike will be from actual sponsors.
Think I am going to do this is two steps. One, rebuild to basic running condition and then prove it can race. Then step two will be a total rebuild and make the coolest, off the shelf, factory bike I can put together and then put it in the top 5 at Loretta's.
Time line and details of step 1:
Rebuild shock and forks for my weight. New top end, New tires, Change fluids, New cables, levers, chain and new bearings all around. AND THATS IT. Max this step at $500. If it does not fit in the budget then its not going to happen this step. Oh wait, add numbers to that list 'cause I am racing this thing at Chilitown in 3 weeks.
Step 2 will start when the snow falls. Details for that are still being made.
So, if you want to get the name of your business on this project, send me a message and we will get this ball rolling.
Much more to come
