The return... With a twist.

Hahaha... to each his own!
I did a simular project with a 2005 YZ250. I had a great time doing it. With the YZ you can even swap never YZF parts (like a 2013+ swingarm, linkage and rear wheel with a more progressive rate) that bolt right up. Not sure if that is possible with the KX. I'm sure you will have fun if nothing else.
I'm planning on doing my 05 125 this winter. I actually need a new swing arm on my 125 and my 06 250. Do you happen to know if the 250f swing arm will bolt up to a 125 or 250 2 stroke? Or would you use a 450 swingarm? And as far as wheels go, do you have to use the 250f and 450 rear wheels? That actually sounds like a good idea.

Good luck with the bike Knox. Sounds like a solid winter project. #2strokenation

If you blast the frame and have it powder coated clear it will finish as if it's a metal flake silver. It's an awesome look for a KX. My second choice would be black chrome.

Perfect. What i would do now that it is torn down and in little peices. It will fit nice into smaller garbage cans , then go buy a zook! Just kidding, looks like fun. Im sending my 125 to 261 for a re valve since rup sold my bike and a greasing. He just doesnt know it yet.............maybe now.

I have a few options for blasting...
4 different types of glass bead polishers from size 10 to 16 grain media
3 forms of aluminum oxide
2 soft shot steel hanger blasters
2 ceramic vibratory polishers
large ultrasonic tank. (larger one on order)

My employer will be my main sponsor. Is that cheating? :)

Having been a Kaw rider from the time I started racing until after I turned A, this project is AWESOME to me. Personally I would powder the frame Flo Green. I would also look for a handbuilt cone pipe or one of those new faux "cone" pipes that are out now. Black wheels, all Flo green plastic and some sweet decals. I also think blasting that painted swingarm is the best thing you can do with a Kawasaki when you get it. That grey paint has a black primer under it and any scratch will stick out like a sore thumb.

I would love to find a nice KX like that to do a project like this.

Oh you have to build that 125. Me, you, Eickel all on one two fives... Now I have to find Reed and convince Mussleman to get a bike and we will be the time warp class.
Since everyone else gets there own class, I think we should add "Old guys on little bikes". We would already have more entries then half the current made up crap classes.

Frame blasting has started. Pics to come. Firing up the powder coat oven now.

I don't think the 125 is the same. The 2 stroke YZ250 and the 4 strokes 250 and 450 have the same mounting points for swingarm, linkage and shocks. Get 2010-2014 YZF 250 swingarm and linkage both. You will need YZF rear wheel too axle is bigger. You will drop about 3 lbs unsprung weight too with YZF swingarm and rear wheel. Ratio is more progressive than 2 stroke. 450 parts will work but ratio is different. I figured 250F is closer weight wise so favored 250 option.
Sorry to high jack this thread with YZ info. Just trying to help.

Frame blasting done. I forgot how bad it sucks to blast a frame in a large cabinet. Flipping hour.
Anyway, it's done and I was about to throw some powder on it when I had a possible game changing idea. If this works everyone will say "Damn, why didn't I think of that". If it doesn't work then I am not telling anyone and it will go back in the blast cabinet...
Maybe more frame pix to come... Oh please let this work

This is the 06 Kx I redid a few years ago. Black frame, stripped swingarm. 450 spring forks. I enjoyed it but my YZ's are twice the bike this was.

Nice. I loved my '05 KX. Best 250 I've ever owned. I have to disagree about the comparison to the YZ though. I had an 08 YZ and it was a good bike but I think my KX was still better.

I've been wanting to put together a blog-time photo story about my 96 Emig replica KX250 and my current build (which isn't done yet) a 96 Carmichael #70 replica KX 125... I spent way to much money and had way to much fun.
