Seems to me that you would improve your chances of getting the asking price if you went ahead and did what was necessary to actually get it running. We hear these "all it needs" lines so often that it's difficult to believe anything the sellers say in their ads.

Might be a fun bike to race. Reminds me a bit of the vintage Yamaha that Tim Shepard races.

Pretty sure Tims are all twin shock 74's so they classify as vintage. I think he just has a yellow tank on one he rides. This would run as PV historic and that kills it for most of us that race PV already-too much racing for one day. Really hurts in the age classes also. If this was a 74 it would have been gone the day it came out. I found this all out the hard way when I redid a 76 CR250 - cool looking for sure but not a real competitive given the class structure. A 76 YZ125 was my first real MX bike-traded a guy a pair of skis and $20 for it in 1980.... Ran great till it blew up.

Is that because of the bikes that you are required to compete against? And probably not a lot of entries in that class?
I could see that point, ....that is before I got run down and passed on my 84 YZ250 by Luke Gallow on his twin shock Harley Davidson 250 at Vintage Days. Not once, but two different times.

A rider that is really comfortable and fast on an older machine can definitely put the pressure on those on newer and better bikes if he's a strong racer.

Bill, Tim has monoshock bikes. One year at Mid Ohio, I think it was the last lap of the moto before Ricky Johnson on an '84 YZ 250 finally got by Tim and his 465. You've been on the track with Tim also... 2016-06-12 12.33.41.jpg 2016-06-12 12.08.11.jpg

That Craigslist 400 is missing the rear frame loop. Looks funky around the fender and seat junction.

Thanks KO. However - pretty sure that is Tim on his 1980 PV bike, he told me the 80 YZ 250 is his choice for PV harescramble and I think he ran moto on it that day too. I had to do some digging but I think this is the bike NQ was talking about- l know he runs vintage because I always watch him battling for the win..

Yes to both. If I wanted to do 50 plus on a 76cr I would be up against you and the other 83 and 84's. Displacement classes do okay at Vintage Days and big AHRMA races but as a rule the least amounts on the gate and especially historic. Also hurts that I am good for about 2 classes a day only and it would run the same day. I'll stick with my 83 CR!

Luke does ride the heck out of that bike, told me it was his late fathers. You see the older bikes/riders doing this occasionally, but not all too often. Another one that comes to mind is Carl S(spelling?) out of MI on his 78ish Dick Mann framed TT500. Really cool to see unless they are passing you.

Tim had that 250 at Cattail a couple of years ago too.

He has and has had many a YZ. He was running open bikes and then more recently went back to the 250 unless he shows up with an open bike. But I don't recall seeing him on a PV linkage bike. He's always fun to watch as he's getting all that he can out of the old bikes while keeping a smooth style. You look good and stylish out there too Bill.

I recall seeing him at the Action Sports AHRMA event on a big bore vintage with a plastic fuel tank. For some reason I was thinking it was a 360?

No plastic for him. Aluminum strap tank! Tim lapped me on my 360 MX this day. Then we both lapped Corky in the woods, one on each side of him. That was fun! I stayed behind Tim until he hit this step up double. My heavy MX didn't want to do that and Tim took off. I had a plastic tank on my MX, is that what you're thinking of NQ?

Hmmm..Yea, probably was you your bike now that I think about it. That goes back a few years now.

The closer that I look at the pictures of that YZ400, the more you see that doesn't look too good. Likely a lot of hidden issues.
