Little Help with a Yamaha MX100?

A friend of mine has this bike. We assume it's a MX100 based on the markings. He is looking to sell it, but we would like to get more information about it if possible. Like year, if it is actually a MX100, any guesses on what it might be worth? It runs pretty good, the brakes work, forks and shocks work. Any help would be great. Thank you.

Doing some searching around looks like early 80s like 1981-1983 they sold red ones.

I'm not sure what to say on value.

Yeah, I was thinking '82 based on my research too. Thought I'd try to get some educated or experienced opinions on here. His idea on asking price is $600. Anyone think that's a bit of overreach?

I think it's a 1983 model. Nice, docile little bike.

It's basically a DT100 with no lights or signals. $600 is a great price.

Picked it up yesterday!
I need to be careful here, the Yamahas are close to outnumbering the Suzukis in my shop now!

Needs a few small parts and I'll be zipping around Mid Ohio on it.

Also from more research, I thought it was a 1983, but Yamaha does not show an MX100 past 1981 on their parts fiche. So maybe it's an 81 then. Surprised the VIN doesn't seem to help.

We have our 1999 RT100 that we've owned for probably 20yrs now. A few cosmetic updates but overall, not far from being the exact same bike.
DT/MX engine, super reliable.

Had the enduro version of that about 30 years ago. Will be cool to see this, probably bother you for a quick cruise.

You won't find a better bike for training kids on how to use a clutch. First gear is so low you can nearly keep up with walking beside it.
