Better to just get the permit. A friend of mine just went through hell because he put an above ground pool in. It was two feet to far on one side behind a privacy fence. Code enforcement officer was refusing to sign off on it, and wanted pool moved. Luckily, he was able to get a variance passed through board of zoning appeals.

Neighbors turn people in all the time I they think you don't have a permit. They are always worried something your doing is going to affect them.

Since this is toolbox talk: I Probably would need a permit to build a deck right?

The way it worked inside Marietta city with a deck was you only need a permit if it actually attach it to the house. If it is free standing you didn't need a permit.
