Not this weekend, but hoping to be in good enough riding shape to hit the June or July rounds.

Made my first Sprint Enduro! What a learning experience.

Battle Creek MC is a really cool place, we drove up Friday and stayed over, ran Round 1 on Saturday. My first thoughts were, how am I supposed to know what to do? It was all new to me. They did a good job at the riders meeting explaining it all for everyone that had never been there before and once you get in line other riders help you figure it out.

They started with the Cross test and had chutes setup to line up via A/B/C. You just sort of lined up in the chute where you thought you fit speed wise and you go off every 15 seconds and then just go as fast as you can to the finish. The start and finish on each test are super tight in between trees to make sure you go slow for the transponder.

Then you go back to the truck, sit down for 10 minutes or so, get a drink, and then go up for the Enduro test. Continue alternating with breaks in between until you have done 3 runs on each test.

On the Cross test, I would usually catch and pass a couple guys during my run. A couple times fast kids came up and passed me. The Cross test was some of the most run riding I've ever done! 4.5 miles long of wide sweeping woods and then MX track. It was super, super fun!!!! I could have done that all day long.

On the Enduro (woods) test, OH BOY. My first run on that I crashed 3 times, stalled another 4 times (thank you magic button) and got passed by probably 15 people. It was way more tight and gnarly than I was expecting. I was thinking as I was doing it "holy s**t I have to do this 2 more times." They also had 3 "Extreme" endurocross sections but there were pussy lines around them. On my first run, I took the pussy line on all of them just to get through it. The next two passes I took the extreme lines, they really weren't too hard but I did eat s**t in the firewood my last run and had to have people help get the bike off from on top of me!

I ended up finishing 7th out of 8 in 50B. Clearly my woods times were way off the pace. Total time for me was 95 minutes.
Results here and you can filter by class and see all the times.

Overall it was super fun! I will go back for sure, not sure if I will make the next one but there is one at Dutch Sport Park I will probably hit.

Dude, The scoring is the BOMB ....
You can flip it all around and get great feedback .. Very cool!

You did well on the cross .....they ate you alive in the woods

Yes you are correct. Left side is my 3 times in Cross test and right side is 3 times in Enduro test. I have no idea what LOI is, saw that too and have no idea.
Go look at the guys that won the overall...they are nearly HALF my time in the woods!!!! HOLY JEEZ.

The other funny thing is this is such a massive contrast to MX and it was so obvious to me as we left and went to Log Road Sunday for LLAQ.

Saturday...people just hanging around, lots of 2 stroke noise coming from the track and woods but since everyone is spread out it's just this constant light background noise. Hardly any pit bikes. Pressure washers and lines filling water barrels, nope. Some campers and stuff, but no mega-haulers that have two PW's in them. Dudes wearing riding vests. Headlights on lots of bikes. People giving me the crazy eye for being on a 450.

Then go to Log Road Saturday to get setup....pit bikes, golf carts everywhere, crazy s**t going on all over, kids running wild, PA guy yelling at people riding pit bikes in the woods. Everyone crazy washing their bikes that have 2 practice laps on them. Massive start noise from all the 4 strokes at the start. Tire vendor has a line of people wanting fresh meat.
But, after so many decades of racing MX, I couldn't help myself as I drove through the packed place trying to park thinking to myself...."ahhhh, Daddy's home!"

Also, I found a vid of some kid from the Cross test on Saturday. This was his 3rd run and the place was pretty bombed out.

Yes the scoring is cool, and it was LIVE. I had it on my phone and could put my bike on the stand, pick up my phone and see my time.

If you look at 50C class, based on CROSS I would be in 1st....but add in the woods and I'm 8th! haha

Not really, but definitely not riding as hard as MX. The pro guys are obviously not pacing, they are flat out hauling and look like any pro MX'er when you watch them in the cross test.

The difficult part was the first run you don't know the course, so I'm slow trying to just find my way. But, the courses are so long, even on the second and third you are remembering a lot, but not all, plus it's getting gnarly and rough. Not to mention, I'm also getting super worn out as the day goes on. Getting myself to go out for the last test of the day was a chore. My hands were wasted, everything sore, etc and I had to force myself to go suffer for another 20 minutes in the woods.

There was one section in the woods that was just a slight down to the left, followed by left turn up the hill between some trees. No big deal, but as the day went on, it was rutted and roots sticking out all over and was crazy hard. My last run through there I got sideways, went off course into prickers and somehow didn't fall, but I had a big pricker branch stuck on me for a while and I didn't want to stop and pull it off! It eventually fell off haha.

For sure if I do more of these I will get better at it. It was good just overall riding for sure.

Also, Emtb all over the place! They are the cheat for the good guys! They get there early and ride/walk the course some on their Emtb to help learn it.

Another funny part was that Kari was watching in the extreme section for my second and third Enduro tests. Second run I made it through fine. Third run when I ate it in the firewood, she helped get the bike off me. The staff guy there with a radio asks if I need medical and she blurts out "NO HE IS FINISHING!!!" Then I meekly say, no I'm ok no medical.....

That - go in blind stuff - has never been a strong point for me - I'm a puss until I know what's on the other side
