Battle for Ohio Round 1 May 27 & 28

Track was pretty good, soft and tacky early in the day, some muddy stuff, but that all dried up by early afternoon. By ATV race time the track was prime. I really like the changes. The new big table section is a blast. Double by the road is safer, even though I almost ate it there twice, ha ha. Good job to Malvern crew on day 1 for Battle! Pretty good considering the weather card they were dealt.

Couple of shots from today. I only stayed for a bit.. To much yard work to get done for tomorrow.

Here's a pic mx955 sent me in a text message. I'm gonna share it because the battle series is a rare opportunity for me and my dad to re-live racing. We don't get the track a lot together but when we do it's special. To all the Moto moms and dads out there, you're building great memories with your kids.

New ownership hit it outta the park today. Smooth program. Best malvern track I've ever raced on! (No offense to Rogers crew) the changing of ownership was so smooth you wouldn't know it happened. Great job Vern!!!! Thanks for a memorable battle race!

It's funny, because someone snapped a pic of the rider to my left Trevor maley and his dad. Even though I'm 30 and my dad is almost 60 I felt 15 again just for 4 laps. And my dad surely felt 35!

This is what Moto is all about. THANK YOU AGAIN FOR A GREAT RACE DAY.
Funny you posted this. I've never really met you or your dad but I was thinking the same thing watching you two at the gate today. My dad is gone, I miss those days but I'm making them with my son! Nice!

Awesome day of racing. Had a blast. Loved the table top section. I was iffy all morning on the step up along the road. Pulled the holeshot my first race of the day and felt it was time to pull the trigger.

John it was awesome meeting your dad. We enjoyed talking with him as well as you and mathew. Your dad saw me coming back one moto (must of been the moto i won haha) and grabbed my stand for me and had it all ready. [emoji16].

Kelly was the holeshot queen today for sure. Railing the outside line. Looked good in all your motos.

Track was great today. I liked the new back section along the trees. Like Pape said, Malvern is shale and once packed in, it's not rutting up on the faces. One of the things I probably really like about Malvern, plus it never really gets super rough for my bad back.

Only complaint is the front section by the finish. I really used to like the table, double, camel back and double in the past. Just didn't really care for that section. As well this year.

Great job by Malvern getting us out of there. I cleaned up and was one of the last to leave and hit the road at 415. The place was almost empty at that point.

341 riders today, not sure how many Saturday night, but rider count was down for sure. Wonder why the decrease? Weather? Has the luster of the Battle worn off? Guess we will find out when we get to ctmx and briar cliff.

Great weekend of racing. Home before 8pm. I tell tons of people from sw ohio they should race these races. But seems like there are only a few of us to make the drive to race them. That's sad. They drive 2 hours to ride a crap track, but won't drive 3 to 3 1/2 to ride a great race with lots of competition.

That finish line section is AWESOME. If you just sent it you could really make up some time. In the first 125 class Moto I made up so much time through there. If you triple into the finish the rest of the section flowed like butter. That's a well built and executed roller section. Perfectly spaced out. Keep that front wheel light and you just float through the section. Probably my Favorite part of the track!

Georgie......i am 47 not 27! That's why I liked it the other way, lol. But you were flying through there in the 125 moto.

I'll admit, the weather reports leading up to the event shied me from making the trip to MaLvern. However, thanks to the Baker boys, I ventured north only to find decent weather and ideal track conditions!
Props to the entire Malvern staff who did an outstanding job in all aspects! I renewed my AMA membership and became an OMA member and was through sign up in under 5 minutes! Track maintenance was fast and done very well. Flaggers seem to be on top of everything in quick time and did not see any issues with anything in the program at all!
I was skeptical to race as I have only written one time in the last six years and it was Tuesday for less than an hour. Got to put tires on the track and practice and SRS Suspension dialed in my suspension for my first race in years. I was slow and didn't jump everything, but I was safe and had an outstanding time and a lot of fun being back at the track! Hopefully I can find myself in better shape and better well prepared for the next two rounds of the Battle for Ohio series!

Yes, kudos to the Malvern team. Weather tried to dampen the excitement coming into it, but the crew pulled out a great weekend. I skipped first practice Saturday, but considering, 2nd and 3rd practices were awesome. Gave me what I needed to learn the track and how this dogg was going to roll over it Sunday. On thing is, Sunday I realized if I could run the last two laps like I could the first two, I'd finish a lot better...oh, and get a start. I lost my hole shot device off my fork slider which didn't help, but not so sure it hurt me all that much either...

At any rate, Spencer, Kim, and I had some fun. Wish we had the camper so I could have traveled 200 less miles for the weekend, but we'll get there. Was awesome handing out with moto familia again. I feel I know where I am after an almost 2 year hiatus and I can build on that.

See you next battle...

We had a great time as always! New and old Malvern crew did an excellent job. Track was beautiful all weekend. The boy had a blast Saturday night mixing it up in the money Pitbike class, even walked away with 50 bucks! Thanks to all!

Cant say enough good things about this past weekend. Mother nature did really good actually for the racing. Track prep was fantastic. The changes are great, its always nice when a track gets a good face lift. Some old stuff mixed in with new.

Best of all the program went smooth as silk. I was next to last moto and we were done by about 330 I think. Great time with great friends. Im hoping the turnout was lower due to weather forecasting that turned out to be wrong.

My one and only complaint is Malvern is done with day races for the year.

Just wanted to thank everyone for coming out this weekend! The weather turned out to be great and the racing was amazing! We truly appreciate all the support and positive feed back! We will see everyone Saturday night!
